CURRENT SELF:
It seems to me that the very act of painting supersedes explanation. To pigeonhole a mysterious process under the parabolic lens of interpretation strips it of its soul and mystery. A picture paints a thousand words--this is the inherent economy of a singular work etched permanently into the copperplate of our minds. The artist is the conduit for something much greater both outside of and inside himself. In order to receive the message, he must create without censorship or external justification. It is a still, small voice he must listen to. He acts as a translator, ferrying the voyeuristic aficionado between worlds. His emotions burn images into the canvas through no force of his own--it is an act of obsession, distilling the message so that others can also see what he sees--the pauses between places and events where something inexplicable, remarkable and unexpected can suddenly emerge--something outside himself with an extraordinary power that can linger and indefinitely keep others in a trance state.
